About those shoes…
In 2007, local businesses, clubs, organizations and individuals contributed over $4,000 to support the Fayette County “Shop With A Sheriff” program to help make Christmas a little better for Fayette County children in need. Participating children, selected through Promise Place, were able to shop with a Deputy Sheriff for items they both needed and wanted for Christmas. The list of items purchased consisted mainly of clothing, including one very special pair of shoes.
An elementary age girl who was selected for the program had only one item on her wish list:
new shoes. Her school counsellor told us that the little girl’s shoes were so worn that the soles had separated from the top of the shoes and the leather had split in several places. Yet she wore them every day. Those are the shoes shown above. They are on public display at the Sheriff’s Office as a reminder of why this program is so necessary.
Our goal for 2009 was to raise $10,000. We surpassed that goal thanks to the generosity of many who placed Fayette county children in need into their Christmas gift giving plans. Your gift will go a long way toward making their Christmas, and yours, much more meaningful.
